Term Relief
Definitions The first column on UM’s Happiness Grid, this happiness type covers all the things people identify as causing them suffering. In doing so, it clarifies four basic forms of relief, ranging from the most obvious to the most profound:
  1. You can eliminate situations you don’t want
  2. You can eliminate unpleasant sensory experiences
  3. You can be skillful with unpleasant sensory experiences
  4. You can completely experience unpleasant sensory experiences

As with all items on the Happiness Grid, this refers both to the impact of a practice on relief and the impact of other factors, such as purposeful action, chance, and so forth.
