Term Connection
Definitions The fifth column on UM’s Happiness Grid, this happiness type covers all the ways people find meaning or satisfaction through forming relationships, overcoming isolation, and/or experiencing Oneness as the source of connection.

Includes the following levels:

  1. Your relationships make you happy (e.g., personal, professional, pets, social).
  2. You help others achieve happiness (e.g., through parenting, caregiving, mentoring, service).
  3. You connect through subtle teaching (e.g., you’re a role model, have good energy, love unconditionally).
  4. You make a universal connection by teaching others to develop happiness independent of conditions.

Covers two distinct features of your happiness goals:

  • Whether you’re seeking connection through what your relationships bring to your life, or whether you’re seeking it through helping others find happiness. This can be thought of as the scale of your happiness goal. Does your goal scale beyond just yourself?
  • Whether you’re clearly aware of Oneness as the source of connection or not. Levels 3 and Level 4 highlight Oneness.
