Term Neutrality
Definitions The word neutrality doesn’t have a technical meaning in UM, but people may use it as a way to talk about experience. Since it can have different meanings in different contexts, you may need to do a Definition Check when it’s being used.

The most common usages include:

  1. A sensory experience that is neither pleasant nor unpleasant may be called neutral (i.e., hedonically neutral).
  2. The absence of emotional sensation in the body may be called emotional neutrality (i.e., as a synonym for Emotional Peace).
  3. The absence of any sensation in the body may be called neutral (e.g., I don’t really feel anything where my ears are. It’s just neutral.).
