Term Inner Visual Rest
Definitions An experience of the relative absence of activity in image space, either in a specific location or globally. Can be experienced with eyes open or closed in several ways, including:
  1. detecting the absence of mental images, with eyes open or closed (You’ve developed the ability to interpret the absence of mental images as a presence of inner visual rest, like artists training to notice “negative space.”);
  2. looking around or through any mental image activity in image space, with eyes open or closed. (This might be described as defocusing your “inner” gaze.); or
  3. focusing on the Grayscale with eyes closed. (Even when mental images are present, the Grayscale may be soothing and help you detach from visual thought.)
